Some songs I don't mind even like but some make me cringe and run to grab a beverage. I have two that I can think of that I have heard.
#1 Stella Blue. Still have not heard somone do this even OK. This song for me can only have Jerry singing I may even have a mental block implanted in my cranium if someone else even tries. One of my friends said Kimock does an instrumental version but I have never heard it.
#2 The Days Between. Not a fan of this song with Jerry so it is just compounded with someone else.
If you know any versions that can change my mind let me have it even with Jerry singing on Days.

#1 I totally agree with you on this one. It's my very favorite Jerry song, and I've heard a version or two by Warren that are very good, but to me there is still something a bit "off." However, whatever tour is was that they were doing it instrumentally - I thought that was the way to go, especially with this particular song. I find those versions very poignant, because the lack of vocals reminds you of what's missing ... the hole that can never be filled. (OK bring on the SDH jokes.)

#2 I like the words to this song but have never had any real attachment to it, so I just don't care what they do with it.

Phil & Friends with Kimock, and the insturmental Stella Blue. I like the song this way, like a riderless horse.

If they'd put the bouncy Tennessee Jed somewhere else, Wish You Were Here-Stella would have made a nice little tribute suite, or maybe that would have been just a little too maudlin ...

I agree with the no lyrics but I give the Willie version a free pass he has done his share of the road and the man has had the same guitar for longer than I have been alive.

I have heard a few versions of Stella Blue that Warren Haynes has sung that I really dig. I think he captures the emotion of the song as well as anyone.

I too think he has done a great Stella . Actually I think he might be the best vocalist they have had in all these post Jerry bands . I am just am not able to get into his guitar playing all that much .

Kimock does an excellent instrumental version of stella blue. he sings the lyrics with his guitar with tons of feeling (as he always does).

I personally don't like any of the Jerry songs that Bobby sings in Furthur. Notably Help on the Way. Bobby should not sing that song...or the one verse of Dark Star that he sings with them...Also Phil on Eyes isn't horrible but it sounds weird having the vocals in a lower register (even though he generally sings the right notes)

I agree that Jerry ballads are for Jerry to sing. Stella Blue, Comes a Time, To Lay Me Down....everyone should leave those alone

but to lay me down is so fun to play! i love the chord changes at the end. sadly when the dead played it when jerry was done singing the song was over but it could really have been stretched out a little bit. i would never actually sing the words though in front of people as people would run for the exits.

Love In The Afternoon

I tried this once with my band and it was the worst ever.

The cranium block has partially lifted that was good what will he do next a jazz standards album or reggae maybe classical or spanish guitar, guy is amazing. I need the extended dance remix with a longer solo though. Thanks for the link.

What about Moonalice doing Stella Blue? The vocals may not be Jerry's, but Barry Sless's pedal steel really works well with what I feel is the mood of the song.

Concur - there is a Furthur/Bobby version getting some air time of late on Sirius/XM and Bobby predictably mangles it with his abominable "talk-sing-grunt-blurt" style he must think someone enjoys.

I didn't like SOTM when JERRY even sang it. Sorry. Total buizzkill for me and never understood why everyone loved it so much.
